Historic old town between the Elbe and Elster! There are several of them on the edge of Lower Lusatia.

The Elbe-Elster-Land in Brandenburg is known for its rich history and its many historic cities and sights. In this blog article we will look at some of the historic old towns in the Elbe-Elster-Land that are worth visiting.

Historic old town Herzberg/Elster:

The historic old town of Herzberg/Elster is a charming town with many historic buildings and a rich history. One of the main attractions is the town church of St. Mary, which was built in the 14th century. The church is an impressive example of Gothic architecture and houses many historical works of art and funerary monuments. The old town itself is also worth a visit, with its narrow streets, old half-timbered houses and numerous small shops and restaurants.

Uebigau is a small town with a rich history and a picturesque old town. Located on the western edge of the Elbe-Elster-Land, is a city with a long history. It was first mentioned in documents in 1209, but archaeologists have found evidence that the area was inhabited much earlier. The city has experienced numerous military conflicts throughout its history and has been besieged and conquered several times. The main attraction is the castle courtyard and the castle park, which together form a beautiful ensemble. The castle itself was built in the 17th century and has served various purposes throughout history, including as a residence and as a barracks. Today it houses an exhibition about the history of the region.

Doberlug-Kirchhain, located in the northwest of the Elbe-Elster-Land, is a medieval town with a rich history and many historic buildings. 'The city is closely linked to the aristocratic Wettin family. The city was founded in the 13th century and was the seat of a residence for a long time. The main attraction is Doberlug Castle, built in the 12th century. The castle is an impressive example of medieval architecture and now houses a museum showcasing the history of the city and the region.

Mühlberg is a town on the banks of the Elbe with a rich history and many historic buildings. Located in the southeast of the Elbe-Elster region, Mühlberg is best known for a historic battle that took place in 1547. In this battle, the troops of the Schmalkaldic League met the army of Emperor Charles V, and the Protestants were badly defeated. The main attraction is the Cistercian monastery Marienstern, which was built in the 13th century. The monastery is an impressive example of medieval architecture and now houses a monastery museum that presents the history of the monastery and the region. The old town itself is also worth a visit, with its narrow streets, old half-timbered houses and many small shops and restaurants.
